Novo Vol.4 Waste (Update 09-04-10)

STAR RATING- 4.5
REVIEW- I recently had the opportunity to read a great graphic novel titled Novo Vol.4 Waste. This story is not your average Indy Comic Book story, it has so much thought thrown into that you just won’t find in the main stream. This science fiction novel is definitely a bang for your buck type of book.
**SPOILER ALERT**
The break down… In the title Novo Vol.4 Waste we enter this other world where the people (creatures) basically live inside this huge dome because they are led to believe that the air outside this dome is contaminated. Imagine a dome like in the Simpsons movie but on a much bigger scale. We see Novo running for his life basically and he makes his way outside of the dome proving that the air outside is clean and safe. Prettar however does not want the workers who believe they are working on an air purifier know about this… So like in most movies the bad guy tells the whole story to the good guy. We find out that really what is going on is there was a shortage of resources, so the so called important creatures kill off the unimportant creatures and basically use the unimportant creatures who survived as unknown slave labor to make machinery to dig deeper for water. Novo escapes the grasps of Prettar for just enough time to get to the bar to tell all of the other creatures. The other creatures of course do not believe this tall tale and side with Prettar. Novo then takes Prettars gun and shots at the dome… It does not look to have any damage. All of a sudden CRACK!!! The whole dome collapses the glass kills Prettar and the other creatures find that the air is in fact clean and they are now free. What do they do with their freedom… Go back to the bar and drink some more. Novo however is angry about this and he up and leaves but as he is leaving a huge piece of glass cuts his head clean off! Now that he is dead he is with his mother but we soon find that this is not true, he is actually with this huge creature that seems to be Prettar in another form. We find out from here that section of the planet was destroyed and the creatures in the bar die because Prettar did not report to the important creatures. There is so much more to this book that when you read you will see how complex this story truly is.
Book Information
Prettar, the corrupt and corpulent CEO of OXY RECO, has guarded the secret purpose of his factory from his worker slaves by supplying them with a lot of beer and a little hope. Now the ignorance he has fostered is being threatened by a stranger in the group, Novo.
The hunt is on as Novo knows the secret that will change everything. He struggles to enlighten the dulled masses of downtrodden and drunken workers, while Prettar tries to protect himself from the people he has used for so long. How long will Prettar’s house of lies stand tall?

The first is a one shot in our EX OCCULTUS series called BADGE OF LANGAVAT. Ex Occultus is a globetrotting, serialized epic combining elements of Indiana Jones, H. P. Lovecraft and The X-Files as it follows the exploits of adventurer and fortune-hunter Francis Wakefield, the gruff and grizzled Englishman with a tortuous past, and his protégé, a young man only known as Hollander, as they journey through the arcane in search of treasures and fortune, righting wrongs as they go. BADGE OF LANGAVAT takes place in 1864 Scotland, and follows Francis Wakefield and fellow occult hunter Fergus Duff as they investigate the disappearance of children from nearby villages. Their hunt leads them to a forgotten castle belonging to a family of undead, cursed werewolves who have nefarious plans for the taken.

REVIEW- Great detective story in the making! I would really love to see this title inked but overall the art work is done quite well. I see a great story building and I recommend you pay close attention to this title. I think a re-release of this title inked would really bring out the feel of this comic. Keep your eyes open and don’t miss out!
